Vortex Simulating Particle System

Overview

This project was a study in motion of how the dynamic forces within a particle system can give a convincing appearance of a tornado. The particle system simulates gravity, lift, centripetal acceleration, suction and drag in real time. Darker particles have increased higher mass than lighter ones to highlight the subtle difference between how forces affect objects of varying mass.

The system runs fluidly at 60 fps while computing the equations of motion for 200,000 particles. Project created in Cinder 0.9. Code can be found on GitHub.
